Last year I challenged myself to draw 100 apples. Well, it went really well but I got kind of bored once I reached drawings the 80's. I started out just doing pencil drawings but expanded to marker, acrylic and charcoal. I decided to bring that project to an end and be satisfied with 82 drawings of apples in a year. Here are some of my favorite pages.
Exercising the Art I Know
"Let each man exercise the art he knows" Aristophanes, 422 B.C. This quote inspires me as I grow as an artist.

Second round of mono printing
I had sometime to return to block printing one afternoon. It was fun but I only ended up with one print I really liked. I built up the layers of paint then added some chalk pastel in different colours over top. I was really pleased with this and will do more.

Mono Printing
I love to
explore layers and texture in my art. I recently started mono printing and am so
excited to explore this more. The photos below are from my first
session.
Tools needed: a brayer (the rollie thing), some glass or other smooth surface and paint. I bought an 8x10 picture frame from the thrift store (for $1) for the glass and through out the frame. I found some old craft paint in a bin and selected 3 of my favorite colours. You then just add a little paint to the glass, smooth it out with the brayer, lay down your coloured paper over the paint, press down and then lift off. There is your first layer of colour. Repeat process with other colours, stencils and anything else. It is when the steps are repeated many times that interesting textures and layers start to happen.
Here are some of my favorites. I cut a sun burst stencil by hand after seeing one on-line I liked. I cut out circles and strips of paper to add texture too. There are some prints that are not shown because I didn't like them. I will pull them out in the future and continue to work on them.

I was able to use one of the mono prints right away for my April Joy Journal Project submission. My plan for some of the other prints is to apply them to some of my drawing journals.

Still Life Painting
This is my first still life painting still graduating from design school well over 10 years ago. I had a little coaching from Will Kemp at http://willkempartschool.com/
I had a lot of fun and am very pleased with the painting.
I felt a little nervous (fearful) about attempting to paint again but the desire to play with paint was greater than wanting to play it safe. Looking forward to doing more.
